Admn gets notice, asked to pay Rs 20 lakh to dead fire fighters’ kin

The sanctioned strength of the Fire Department be increased.

Advocate H C Arora has served a notice to the Home Secretary Anil Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh with regard to the policy framed for awarding compensation to the family of employees who died firefighting in Sector-17.

It has been demanded that Rs 20 lakh each be paid to the families of the two firemen who died. It was further stated that the sanctioned strength of the Fire Department be increased. In case, these demands are not met the advocate would file proceedings in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Highlighting the anomalies in firefighting when the fire broke out in the NIELIT building, the notice states that the hydraulic ladder reached the spot 90 minutes late, while the area was cordoned off three hours after the fire, and the civil defence teams were informed  five hours after the fire broke out.
