Representatives of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Panjab University (PU),today observed black day, demonstrating against authorities for not taking actions regarding increasing violence in campus.

Wearing black scarfs, students demonstrated outside the Vice-Chancellor’s (V-C)office. The members had submitted a memorandum to the V-C 15 days ago, seeking stern action against the miscreants involved in recent incidences of violence.

The representatives today demanded that the authorities should ban entry of outsiders inside the campus. Dean Student Welfare (DSW) A S Ahuluwalia told the students that putting a blanket ban on entry of outsiders will not be the solution.

Ahluwalia said,“Restricting outsiders’ entry is practically not possible. If we find some of the students indulging into violence repeatedly, then we may ban their entry.” Over the past five years, students in city colleges and PU have indulged in violence on nearly 40 different occasions.

Five days ago, about seven students were attacked at DAV college,Sector 10. Of these, two students received bullet injuries, while other five received injuries inflicted by sharp-edged weapons. In a similar incident last month, about 10 students clashed during a blood donation camp organised at the student centre.
