Tension prevailed in Mari Kamboke village in Valtoha constituency after workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) clashed Tuesday. It is for the first time that a clash between the two parties has been reported.
The incident came to the fore when AAP workers, who were planning to stage a dharna outside the house of sarpanch in the village, were allegedly stopped by SAD volunteers. Chief Parliamentary Secretary and MLA from the constituency, Virsa Singh Valtoha said, “Few AAP volunteers came to the village and started making baseless allegations on me and my party. Villagers objected to it and asked them to not indulge in such activities. They told them to leave the village but they refused. The workers announced that they will stage a dharna outside the house of Sarpanch Pulpinder Singh. It further angered the villagers, and they sought support from people to oppose the AAP workers. Soon, a crowd gathered and forced them to leave the village.”
AAP, however, has a different story to tell. “ Few Akali workers trashed the driver of the truck hired by us to let people inform about a rally planned for Wednesday. We informed the police and the truck was recovered from Akali workers. But the police logged no FIR against them. It was an attack on democracy. It was an attack on freedom of speech. We have right to pass our message to the masses. We will take this case to logical end,” said Captain Vikram Sandhu, AAP ex-servicemen wing leader.
