In the past few months,two young but talented golfers from Chandigarh have been turning heads with their stellar performances. These two golfers have been in fine form and won numerous tournaments at the domestic circuit.
While the 11-year-old Aadil bedi has set the domestic circuit ablaze with his three wins in the IGU Junior Circuit,another Chandigarh golfer,Vasundhara Thiara,too,had her share of moments by winning titles in the junior category at the national level.
Friday was no different for them as both Bedi and Thiara emerged winners in their respective categories on the concluding day of the First Chandigarh Golf Association Junior Golf Tournament held at Panchkula Golf Club. While Bedi returned with a overall score of 151 to emerge as the winner in the Category C,Thiara claimed the title in the Category D in the girls’ event with an overall score of 169.
“It feels good to win a tournament at home. I had been busy playing in the IGU junior circuit and winning the junior title in the CGA Championship is always a big thing for me. The conditions were bit tough and I played well on the front nine. But a double-bogey on the back nine meant that my score slipped a little. Overall I am happy with my performance in this tournament,” shared Bedi,who has got an invitation to play in the World Junior Masters Golf Championship to be held in Las Vegas,USA,from July 21 to 23.
Meanwhile,Thiara emerged winner in Category D and Aanya Bindra grabbed the second spot with an overall score of 203. The third spot was claimed by Puneet Bawa with an overall score of 210.
In Category B in the girls’ event,Soneel Malik emerged as the winner with a score of 181 while the second spot was claimed by Ashi Jain with an overall score of 183. Mushkaanmeet Kaur claimed the third spot in the same category.
It was easy going for Manjot Singh as he went on to win the title in the Category E in the boys’ event with an overall score of 103. There was a tough fight for the second spot between Aditya and Jujhar Singh as both were tied with an overall score of 106 each but Aditya claimed the second spot with a better 9 score.
In the team championship,the duo of Manjot Singh and Jujhar Singh of SGGS School,Sector 26,claimed the title in the team with a score of 209 in the Inter-School event in Category E. Meanwhile,in Category D,Anyaa Bindra and Mayra Jawanda of Carmel Convent School,Sector 9,clinched the title with a overall score of 356.
In Category C,the team of Vivek High School,Sector 38,consisting of Chinmaya Mahajan and Aadil Bedi claimed the title with an overall score of 326.
A total of 78 golfers took part in the championship and the second tournament in the series will be conducted in September later this year.
