700 senior citizens participate in ‘Walk-for-Fun’

In the run up to the Senior Citizens’ Day,the 12th annual ‘Walk-for-Fun’ event was held at Sukhna Lake on Friday with about 700 residents participating.

In the run up to the Senior Citizens’ Day,the 12th annual ‘Walk-for-Fun’ event was held at Sukhna Lake on Friday with about 700 residents participating.

The event was organised jointly by the Chandigarh Police and Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association (CSCA).

With many participants in their 80s and 90s,participants were required to cover a maximum of three kms.

After the walk,a musical chair completion had also been organised.

Speaking about issues faced by senior citizens,Grewal said,“Several senior citizens wanted stricter enforcement of traffic rules,check on PG accommodation,action against “unofficial” paid parking areas,provision of community parking in sectors,enforcement of ban on loud music and synchronisation of lights at round-abouts.

Meanwhile,IG R P Upadhayaya lauded the role of senior citizens in society as counselors and guides,while appreciating the work of senior citizens as members of community police and traffic marshals.
