The district education officer has called for a written explanation from a teacher of Government Primary School, College Road, after a five-year-old class II student was allegedly beaten black and blue on Saturday.

Reportedly, Ananya was beaten by Punjabi teacher Dimple at Government Primary School, College Road. The parents alleged that she was beaten so badly that the blue and red marks were visible on her face and she had been crying since she came back from the school on Saturday.

However, the teacher, when contacted, said that “she did not beat the child”. “The allegations are false as I did not beat the girl,” she said.
DEO (Primary) Gurjot Singh said, “A committee under deputy DEO and Block Panchayat Education Officer (BPEO) has been formed which will record statements of other students and teachers in school. Its report will be finalised on Monday and action will be taken after it.”
