A Mohali resident was looted of his car at gunpoint by four youths near Kali Bari in Sector 47 on Sunday morning.

Police believe an undertrial who had fled from police custody at the district courts last week was involved in the crime.

Kamaljeet Singh, who is in the business of used cars, along with his neighbour and partner Kushwinder, was returning from Delhi in his Indica car around 3.30 am when they saw a damaged car on the roadside and some men asking for help.

Singh said, “One of the men appeared injured. I stopped, went up to them and one of them asked for water. When I turned to bring water from my car, they pulled out a pistol, threatened me, got into the car and drove away.’’

Kushwinder, who sat in the car, saw them brandishing a pistol and ran away before they got to the car.

Earlier, seeing the damaged car, Singh had called the police on emergency number, but the cops reached after the entire incident.

The police impounded the Alto car which is suspected to have been stolen from Ludhiana. A CFSL team lifted blood samples from the car. Two mobile phones were also found.
A case was registered at the Sector 31 police station.
