4 charged with immoral trafficking

Chandigarh police on Thursday submitted a charge-sheet against four persons for immoral trafficking and forcing women into the flesh trade.

Chandigarh police on Thursday submitted a charge-sheet against four persons for immoral trafficking and forcing women into the flesh trade. The four accused include Ashwani Sethi,Abhishek Tiwari,Gurmeet Singh and Hemraj.

The accused have been booked under Section 3 (Punishment for keeping a brothel or allowing premises to be used as a brothel),Section 4 (Punishment for living on the earnings of prostitution),Section 5 (Procuring,inducing or taking person for the sake of prostitution) and Section 6 (Detaining a person in premises where prostitution is carried on).

Ashwani Sethi,the owner of Hotel Royal Plaza in Daria village has been arrested by the UT Police twice along with Abhishek Tiwari. As per police sources,the duo had spent three months behind bars in the year 2008 and are presently under trial in an another alleged flesh trade racket.

According to the chargesheet submitted by DSP Rajesh Kalia on Thursday,it has been alleged that the accused had assured the women who were rescued that they would be provided with jobs. But these women were pushed into the flesh trade.

The alleged racket was being operated in Sethi’s hotel in Daria village. The police raided the hotel on January 20 after it received secret information about the racket from one of the senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration.

Abhishek,a resident of Panchkula,Gurmeet aka Mehandi,a resident of Manimajra and Hemraj aka Doctor,a resident of Manimajra were arrested by the police by sending a fake client. The hotel was raided and the accused were arrested and five victims were rescued by the police.
