Three youths,two from Mohali and one from Chandigarh,have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for passing lewd remarks about two girls on the night of June 18. The three arrested are Manpreet Singh and Jaspreet Singh of Mohali,and Gautam Partap Singh who lives in Sector 27.

The youths were in a Mercedes car when they first encountered the two girls,sisters,who were returning to their residence in Sector 8 from the Sector 7 market on foot. It was then that they allegedly passed indecent comments. The next day,on June 19,the three youths,who were reportedly in an inebriated state,threw beer bottles at the window panes of a vehicle belonging to the two girls in Sector 8. The vehicle (a Maruti Zen),which was parked inside the house,was damaged badly.

A complaint was lodged by the girls at the Sector 3 police station,following which the police arrested the trio. A case based on charges of passing remarks,making gestures to insult the modesty of a woman,criminal trespass and furtherance of common intention has been registered by the Chandigarh Police. All the accused were arrested and later released on bail.
