3 women snatchers held

The Mohali Police claimed to have busted a gang of women who had been involved in various incidents of thefts and snatchings in the city in the past few months.

The Mohali Police claimed to have busted a gang of women who had been involved in various incidents of thefts and snatchings in the city in the past few months.

Police have managed to arrest three of the accused while others are on the run. Police have also recovered stolen jewellery worth around Rs 2.5 lakh from their possession. The accused have been identified as Seema (27),Iqbal (28),both residents of Patiala,and Rano (28),a resident of Nabha.

During interrogation,the women disclosed that there were nine members in the gang and had been operating in separate groups at various religious places and near bus stands. Six gang members are currently on the run.

According to police,the gang used to strike in a group of two to three at religious places like Gurdwara Singh Sheedan,Amb Sahib and Daun Sahib. They would make away with gold jewellery of unsuspecting devotees. If someone raised the alarm,the accused passed the stolen jewellery and other articles to their accomplice.
