The police confiscated around 26 crates of unhygienically prepared banta,a drink, from a pick up van on Wednesday. Police Special Technical Operation Cell received the information that a Mahindra pick-up van driven by Deepak Kumar,a resident of Ram Darbar, was carrying the spurious drinks.

The van was stopped at Faida Barrier near Sector 47,and over 300 banta bottles were recovered. The police said the drink was being manufactured in Punjab, and being supplied to rehris (hand carts) in Chandigarh. Food & Supply officials of the UT Health Department collected samples that will be sent to a laboratory for testing, and further legal action will be taken after the laboratory report is received.
