2 vehicle thieves,4 burglars arrested; 16 cars, goods worth Rs 1.65 lakh recovered

UT Police has arrested of six persons in three separate cases of motor-vehicle thefts and burglaries.

UT Police has arrested of six persons in three separate cases of motor-vehicle thefts and burglaries.

Manoj Kumar and Imran Ali,both residents of Muradabad were arrested by the Crime Branch of the UT Police from Uttar Pradesh. The crime branch claims to have recovered 16 Maruti 800 cars from the accused. “During interrogation it has been revealed that Manoj,with the help of Imran Ali,used to steal only Maruti 800 cars from different cities. After stealing the vehicle,they used to exchange the chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles with each other. They also fixed fake number plates thereon,” said DSP Crime,Satbir Singh.

The duo later sold these vehicles. “Manoj is a habitual criminal. He was earlier arrested in eight cases of vehicle thefts registered with the various police stations of Chandigarh. Out of all these cases,he has been convicted in five cases,two cases are under trial and in one case,he has been declared as a proclaimed offender,” DSP added.

Out of the sixteen vehicles recovered from the accused,ten were allegedly stolen from Chandigarh,four from Panchkula and one from Delhi. The place of stealing of the sixteenth car is yet to be ascertained.

In another case,Darshan and Mukesh Kumar have been arrested the duo was involved in burglaries. Three cases of burglary have been registered against each of them in police stations of Chandigarh. Both these accused were arrested and were released from jail on March 25 and March 27,respectively. After they were released,the duo again indulged in criminal activities and stole motorcycles.

In the third case,Sonu Kumar and Sahil Kaushal were arrested for alleged burglaries. “Investigation has revealed that Sonu used to commit house theft by getting himself employed as a domestic help. He had committed burglaries in six houses as per police records. Out of these cases,Sonu was convicted in one case and the remaining five cases are under trial,” said DSP Satbir.

Sonu and Sahil were released from jail on March 8. Sahil Kaushal,who had been involved in incidents of snatching came in contact with Sonu in jail and indulged in burglaries. Sonu was arrested in seven cases of snatching and was also booked in a case under the NDPS Act. “Both the accused had planned their modus-operandi while they were in jail. We have recovered property including 50 tolas gold and other things amounting to Rs 1.65 lakh.
