Two Chandigarh Police constables created a ruckus in an inebriated state during the wee hours on Monday. Hurling abuses at their senior police officers, the two reached outside the official residence of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naunihal Singh in Sector 16,Chandigarh.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the two constables Balbir Singh and Jagbir Singh by the Chandigarh Police. After consuming liquor at around 12:10 am,the two constables reached the PCR,headquarters,in Sector 9.

They requested the senior officer to let them return home since they were drunk. When refused, they allegedly created a nuisance and used unparliamentary language. They initially went towards the Sector 17 bus stand and then headed towards the official residence of Naunihal Singh in Sector 16. While constable Jagbir Singh was the in-charge of the PCR,constable Balbir was driving the PCR.

The two kept misinforming the control room of their location and then informed that they were heading towards the official residence of SSP. Inspector Satpal and Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh were rushed to Sector 16 to stop the two constables. After reaching the spot, when Inspector Satpal tried to stop constable Jagbir,he fired at Inspector Satpal who had a narrow escape.

Naunihal Singh said at a press conference that “exemplary action will be taken against the two”. He said that such instances of “dereliction of duty” will not be tolerated.
