15-year-old Chandigarh boy collapses in swimming pool, dies

Priyanshu’s father Ranbir Singh Malik told the police that his son collapsed when he stepped into the pool and there was no foul play in the death. The body was taken to his native town in Hisar without post-mortem, after Ranbir Singh Malik appeared before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

The manager of the swimming pool, Sonu Sohi, told Chandigarh Newsline that he was present at the pool when the incident took place and he along with other staffers took Priyanshu to the hospital along with his father. Sohi added that Priyanshu collapsed inside the pool but when they pulled him out, he had talked to them and seemed to be normal after they rubbed his hands and chest.

Sohi said safety jackets and other safety gear was available at the pool. He added that the CCTV cameras were not working at the pool when the incident took place as the cameras stopped working on Tuesday night after a short circuit.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sulekh Chand, who recorded the statements of Priyanshu’s father and the swimming pool staff, said it was an accidental death and that Priyanshu did not drown. He added that Ranbir Singh Malik did not allege any foul play.

On Monday, a 35-year-old man was killed after drowning in a swimming pool at Aura Vaseela Resorts near Nidali village.
