The Haryana Urban Development Agency (HUDA) will aid the Panchkula Municipal Corporation in improving civic amenities in the city. Thirteen technocrats of HUDA have been given additional charges in the MC technical wing so that development works in the city are expedited.
HUDA officials who have been given additional charge in the MC include eight junior engineers, four sub divisional officers and an executive engineer.
It is an ad-hoc arrangement aimed at improving functioning of the Panchkula MC,which is facing staff shortage, said Deputy Commissioner,Panchkula,Ashima Brar. The HUDA officers will take care of technical wing of the civic body and we hope it will help in improving the functioning of the MC.
Brar said that they had already send a proposal to the government for filling all the vacant posts in MC to make it more effective.
MC officials said that due to staff shortage, various developmental works in the city have got affected. The MC is supposed to take care of all the interior roads in Panchkula and a majority of them are in dilapidated condition. Residents allege that the civic body has turned a blind eye towards the issue and many roads continue to paint a picture of neglect.
The development works could not be executed due to staff shortage and despite the fact that budget was available for many works,. At present,we dont have any executive engineer. And we have only three junior engineers who are taking care of any technical work in the city, said an MC officer.
I hope that with nearly a dozen engineers from HUDA all set to join the department,it will help in executing various projects.
