THE UT Administration has shortlisted two names from Chandigarh for Padma awards.

Those shortlisted are Dr Amit Bhattacharjee, mentor of sportsman Abhinav Bindra, and instrumentalist Subhash Ghosh. Although a final decision is yet to be taken, a discussion on these names was held at a meeting here on Wednesday. The last date for sending the names to the Ministry of Home Affairs is September 15. A final call will be taken by UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore.

A research officer by profession, Bhattacharjee had helped Bindra in winning the first gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Holding multiple doctorate degrees from 2000-2006, Bhattacharjee has also done several certified courses, including one in behavioural hypnosis. He is skilled with software that reads human brain frequency under pressure, muscle stability and breathing patterns.

Ghosh, an instrumentalist and teacher, has been running an academy of Indian classical music and fine arts for the last 16 years where he has been teaching Indian music to children and youth.

Ghosh had modified the classical guitar with the harmonious elements of veena, sarod and sitar, christened as sarasveena.
