In order to ease traffic congestion around General Hospital, Sector 6, the Panchkula police on Tuesday made the road leading from Sector 5 to Sector 6 one-way from 8 am to 5.30 pm.

One of the connecting roads from Sector 5 to Sector 6, which leads to General Hospital and a number of state-level departments including the Haryana Police Headquarters, Housing Board Corporation, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, the road records heavy rush of traffic during the day. The police had also installed traffic lights at the point last year to ensure smooth flow of traffic. However, traffic snarls are still witnessed at the point.

“There used to be heavy rush at this point all the time because of a number of state-level offices and departments and a large number of patients visiting the hospital. The auto drivers also used to drop the passengers and then take a U-turn causing a traffic block. So, we had made it a one-way road,” said Traffic Inspector Suresh Kumar.

The road has been made one-way during office working hours from 8 am to 5.30 pm for all the vehicles, except for ambulances and patient-care vehicles. “The ambulances will be allowed to move, but no other vehicle,” said Kumar.
