Chandigarh murder: Two arrested, third accused on the run

A day after a man was murdered in Sector 19, police arrested two persons who were involved in the crime on Monday, while the third accused is absconding. The arrested persons confessed to the crime during the investigation, said the police. The arrested have been identified as Avdesh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony and Deepak Kumar, a resident of Manimajra. The third accused is identified as Kaka, a resident of Sector 26.
DSP (South) Satish Kumar said: “Accused Avdesh Kumar along with his two accomplices went to Sector 19 where they involved in a brawl with the deceased, Surinder alias Shinda. Avdesh started beating Surinder with sticks resulting in his death.”

The DSP added that Avdesh was questioned on Sunday night after the incident, but he was in a drunken state. Later, he confessed to the crime and also disclosed the names of his accomplices.

The DSP said the accused came to Sector 19 in a Maruti car. Avdesh told the police that Surinder abused him, following which he beat him up. The other two accused also joined him.

Both Avdesh and Deepak were produced in the court on Monday. Avdesh was sent to judicial custody, while Deepak remanded in police custody for two days.

Around 8.15pm on Sunday, Surinder was found lying on the ground outside his in-laws’ house in Sector 19D. He was rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, where he was declared dead.
The police said Surinder was mentally unstable and was living with his in-laws.
