Chandigarh businessman abducted, paid Rs 40L ransom

Police have registered a case after a businessman in Sector 35 alleged that he was abducted by two persons late on Tuesday night and he had to pay Rs 40 lakh as ransom.

Police have registered a case after a businessman in Sector 35 alleged that he was abducted by two persons late on Tuesday night and he had to pay Rs 40 lakh as ransom.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Harjinder Bajaj. The complainant told the police that two men stopped his car and abducted him from outside his shop while he was leaving for his home.

Naseeb Singh, station house officer, Sector 36 police station, said: “He (Bajaj) informed the PCR about the incident at 12.45 am. He told us that two men stopped his car and then kidnapped him. He claimed than he paid Rs 40 lakh and then he was set free.”

The police said the victim deals in money exchange business and is associated with medical business. In his complaint, Bajaj said that he called his friend in Mohali to get the money that was paid to the kidnappers.

“We are investigating the case and so far, there are no leads in the same. No one has been identified in the case and no arrests have been made so far,” Singh said. He said the victim was freed near Chapparchiri in Mohali. “He was first asked to get down from the car. The car was left nearby to the place where he was freed by the two men,” Singh said.
