A woman, who was arrested along with her mother for stealing diamond jewellery from Sham Jewellers on August 13, allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the first floor of Sector 34 police station on Monday and injured one of her feet. Later, the police booked her in another case of attempting to commit suicide.
Meanwhile, the police are yet to make any recovery from the accused and the main accused , Ankush, is still absconding with his female friend.
According to the police, Aradhna, who was arrested with her mother Rita from Sham Jeweller’s shop, was at the police station when on Monday she requested a female constable to accompany her up to the washroom but when she came out of the room, which is located on the first floor of the building, she suddenly jumped and sustained injuries on her feet. The officials said that she had fractured her feet and she was immediately taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where she was still undergoing treatment under tight security.
A case under sections 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension ) and 309 (attempt to suicide ) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Sector 34 police station against Aradhna.
Meanwhile, the officials said that they did not make any recovery from the accused after they confessed to commit thefts in Talwar jeweller in similar ways and the main accused in the case and accused Rita’s son Ankush is absconding with his female friend Anchal, who is also a part of their gang.
“Aradhna, who we feel knew most of the movements of her brother Ankush, is in the hospital. She probably tried to kill herself so that we could not grill her. Rita, on the other side, told us that she did not know where Ankush was. We are raiding some places on the basis of some information we gathered from our sources and we are hopeful that we will arrest him soon,” added a police official.
