A 43-year-old teacher, who is under suspension for 14 years, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 20-month old boy and attempting to sell him for Rs 50,000.

Rudra Somachari, a suspended government school teacher and resident of Kanakapura, was arrested by Byappanahalli police when he was trying to sell the child to another teacher Ramachandra on pretext that the boy’s parents were killed in a road accident, officials said.

The police said Somachari took away Akshay aka Chintu from an anganwadi school on Wednesday after offering him chocolates. He was tracked through his mobile calls, officials said, adding that financial crisis might have forced him to indulge in the crime.
