A 34-YEAR-old woman was killed and two others, including a college student, injured when a speeding BMTC bus knocked them down at the Suddagunte Palya bus stop on Friday morning.

The Indiranagar traffic police said the deceased had been identified as Yesa, a resident of Old Byappanahalli and an employee with the housekeeping department of a private firm.
The injured persons were identified as Lavanya, 20, a final-year degree college student and Muniraju, a field officer with a private firm.

The police said the incident occurred around 8 am when Yesa and others were waiting at the bus stand. A speeding BMTC bus plying between Majestic and KR Puram knocked them down. Yesa died on the spot.

Lavanya was injured severely on the head and was rushed to NIMHANS hospital. She was later shifted to the Victoria Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Muniraju was rushed to a nearby hospital as his legs were fractured.

The bus driver, identified as Kumar, has been arrested by the Indiranagar traffic police. Initially, the driver told the police that a brake failure caused the accident. “We have recorded his statement and the vehicle will be examined by experts to find out whether the brakes really failed or not,” a police officer said.
