The Bangalore police have arrested the chairman of the Vibgyor International School, where a 6-year-old girl was allegedly raped. The Bangalore police have arrested the chairman of the Vibgyor International School, where a 6-year-old girl was allegedly raped.

The chairman of Bangalore’s Vibgyor International School, where a 6-year-old girl was allegedly raped, was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Rustom Kerawalla, the chairman of the school, was arrested under various sections of IPC, Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi told reporters.

Police have invoked section 201 of IPC (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) against Kerawalla, he said.

This is the second arrest in connection with the case, as the police had on July 20 arrested the skating instructor of the school. The 30-year-old skating instructor, Mustafa alias Munna, was a prime suspect as the police had found child pornography videos downloaded from the internet on his laptop.

The main accused was sacked at a school earlier for “gross misconduct” with girls, the institution had disclosed, with Vibgyor High School coming in for criticism for not checking the background of its staffer.

A six-year-old child was allegedly sexually assaulted during the school hours on July 2 according to a complaint filed on July 14. The parents filed the complaint after their daughter complained of stomach ache and a doctor who was consulted stated that the child had been sexually assaulted. Though the police narrowed down to two suspects – the skating instructor and a security guard – efforts to find clinching evidence proved unfruitful.

In the backdrop of the public outcry over the case, the Congress-led government had on Monday transferred two senior police officers out of the city police commissionerate.

Bangalore police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar was replaced by M N Reddi, who earlier served as additional director general of police (law and order) while Auradkar’s second-in-command, additional commissioner of police (law and order) Kamal Pant was replaced by Alok Kumar, who has served as the former head of the anti-terrorist unit and as inspector general of police (grievances and human rights).

It was school's responsibility to do proper background checks before hiring school teacher. If they had done so this incident would not have happened. The school also lacked proper CCTV installation, visitor registration process, trained security guard to man the secluded areas and various other checks and balances. The chairmen is definitely responsible and this is right steps the city police have taken.

If he has indeed committed the crime then he should be punished for it. Why does it specifically have to be a "Muslim" thing. Please grow up and contribute. You are not helping!!

No. Because you don't have to drag religion into everything. A criminal is just a criminal. The crime would be equally heinous even if it were done by some man from another caste, community or religion.

No. Because you don't need to drag religion into everything. Criminals are criminals. They don't have any religion.

Whatever they do during the month of Ramzan is considered holy.

Has anyone raised the issue of how a Muslim instructor could rape a 8-year old Hindu girl during the "holy" month of Ramzan?

I dont think so .. Schools are known to suppress issues to maintain image of school. Instead of cooperating with investigation they tend to look the other way or just sack the person involved.

This is communal to raise such issue in a secular India by secular media in a secular month. Just on Indians and mostly the perverted Hindus

If you go about arresting chairman, Prinl, and Directors of a school because of a crime committed by a teacher or peon, or sports instructor, then nobody will be interested in running a school, and that will be a major blow to the community.

Don't blame religion. If Muslim commit such crime give him punishment as per Islam. India doesn't have capital punishment for rape but Islam has. Hang the rapist in middle of the city. Justice will be done

Has the teacher who locked up that girl in that room been taken to task? If that teacher had not locked up that girl in the first place.. none of this would have happened ! Also when she came later and found the girl she should have informed the parents if the girl was in pain. Why did she call some doctor .. give the child some medicine and try to hush it up?

Boody media... Give the headline 6 year old girl rape but never mention rape by muslim .. But if the reverse happen then media and news paper give the head line "6 year old muslim girl rape by Hindu or Jain or khristan" like this.. this is the fate of our country..

Probably this act of police will induce some fear in those influential school managements who are notorious for their high handedness. The way this man was moving around like a fugitive shows his character....Its needed at times.

Gregory Savage, I'm a Hindu, and we don't need your views on Muslin Instructor, 8 year Hindu girl or the Holy month of Ramzan. A rapist does not respect race, creed religion or holy month. He has just one urge and he takes advantage of the situation if it presents itself to fulfill his urge.

I agree. Today it happened at Vibgyor, tomorrow it can happen in any other school. Need strong & foolproof system to timely check the same. I think at the time of recruitment, Police verification, CCTV camera at every look & corner, Parents Forum, Monthly PTA, More of female teacher & trainer to be appointed, no girl should be allowed to go without female teacher, regular behavioral training are some of the steps every big school need to strongly adopt.
