Gujarat Pradesh Mahila Congress on Saturday submitted a memorandum to all the district collectors in the state, demanding stern action against the two accused involved in rape of a dengue patient in Apollo Hospital in Gandhinagar recently, with one of the accused being a Pakistani doctor on a long-term working visa.

The Mahila Congress president Sonal Patel also threatened to take up the issue with the National Commission for Women(NCW) if the state government did not take strict steps regarding safety of women in hospitals. Patel alleged that another woman was raped in a hospital in Ahmedabad after the Apollo incident. She alleged that a woman in Gujarat was subjected to sexual assault at every 35 hours, indicating how vulnerable the women had become in the state. She said that 222 cases of sexual assault on women were reported in 2014-15.
