Woman who consumed poison at Sachivalaya dies

A woman,who had allegedly consumed poison at Sachivalaya in Gandhinagar on Wednesday reportedly after government officials refused to attend to her complaint filed under SWAGAT died at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital in the early hours of Thursday.

A woman,who had allegedly consumed poison at Sachivalaya in Gandhinagar on Wednesday reportedly after government officials refused to attend to her complaint filed under SWAGAT (State-Wide Attention on Public Grievance),died at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital in the early hours of Thursday.

Police said Ami Kalpesh Patel,a resident of Patelnagar in Mehsana,had filed a complaint against her parents who were allegedly harassing her for re-marrying a man and giving him death threats. When she did not get any response to her complaint,she consumed poison in the parking lot of Sachivalaya.

According to police,Ami had married one Kalpesh in 2006 against the wishes of her parents. In 2008,she gave birth to a boy,but next year she took divorced Kalpesh. However,the couple remarried in the same year,which reportedly did not go down well with her parents,who allegedly started harassing her and Kalpesh.

Subsequently,she lodged a complaint against her parents with the Mehsana police and later filed an application on the SWAGAT portal.

While Kalpesh has filed a complaint of abetment to suicide and harassment against Ami’s parents,range IG Shamsher Singh has ordered an inquiry by the Mehsana SP and sought a report within two days.
