Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that after establishing Vadodara as an engineering hub,his government is all set to develop the area as a new hub of defence engineering.

The CM was speaking at an award function held by the Federation of Gujarat Industries here.

“Vadodara has established itself as the engineering hub of the state. Focusing on the core strength of engineering industries of Vadodara, the government plans to develop it into hub of defence engineering,” he said.

“We want Gujarat to take the lead in making country self-sufficient in defence equipment manufacturing as currently even trucks needed for the Army are imported,” Modi said. He said Gujarat would encourage setting up of units manufacturing defence equipment and would soon announce a policy to that effect.

He said Karjan and the surrounding region in Vadodara have the potential to be developed as textile hub, given the easy availability of cotton here.
