Self-styled godman Asarams son Narayan Sai stayed in different parts of Gujarat for 22 out of the 58 days that he was absconding, after being booked in a sexual assault case registered against him at Jehangirpura police station here.
This was revealed in the course of Sais interrogation. Sai is in police remand till December 11.
The police has noted down the names and the addresses of the people who had given shelter to him and his aides.
Surat police had carried out a search operation at different ashrams Gambhoi ashram in Himmatnagar district and Motera ashram in Ahmedabad and Jehangirpura ashram in Surat to arrest Sai,his accomplices Kaushalkumar Thakur alias Hanuman,Ganga and Jamna. However, the police managed to get nothing from these ashrams, except some land-related documents, fixed deposit slips and blank cheques signed by Narayan Sai.
The godmans son managed to evade arrest despite look-out notices at airports, putting up posters of him as a wanted offender in different states and sending search teams to Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh,Delhi and Bihar among others.
Surat police also claims to have learnt that Sai used a helicopter to travel from one place to another. He was finally caught with Hanuman and his chauffeur Ramesh from Pipli village in Kurukshetra district by the Delhi Crime Branch. The three arrested men were brought to Surat for police interrogation and produced before Surat district court and are now in police remand. While Sai is in the custody of the Surat Crime Branch,Hanuman is in Mahidharpura police lockup and Ramesh at Salabatpura police station.
According to the police,Sai,who was initially tight-lipped,has broken down after a round of questioning before police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana. He reportedly told him that he was staying at a farmhouse of his disciples and also in the ashrams close to state borders. Sai is also reported to have disclosed that Hanuman was with him all this time.
However,Sai said that he last spoke to Jamna in the second week of November, and since then she was not reachable.
