In an attempt to make Vadodara railway station look cleaner and more organised, the railway authorities are planning to bring in more sophisticated machines to clean up the platforms.

It will also employ 30 ragpickers in Vadodara railway division, who would work under a supervisor. Vadodara became the first railway division to rope in ragpickers for their cleanliness drive on the platform, last year.

D K Chanchodia,Divisional Commercial Manager,Vadodara Railway Division, told Newsline,“Last year,we roped in some ragpickers for cleaning the platform. But they played truant, which is why we have to keep them under supervisors now.”

Besides,Vadodara is also introducing high-end machines and dedicated water lines on the platforms. The new machines include scrubbing machines, dry and wet machines and high-pressure jet cleaning machines.

“In a phased manner,we are going to implement similar drives in other stations too,” he said.
