Vadodara man found charred to death in bathroom with no sign of fire

The police said that Trivedi lived with his father in the flat, while his brother lived in the adjoining building of the same residential complex.

The charred body of a 42-year-old gym trainer was found inside the bathroom of his flat in a high-rise residential building on Gotri-Vasna road in Vadodara city on Thursday. The police, which identified the deceased as Abhishek Trivedi, have initiated a probe to ascertain the cause of the fire, as the fire department did not “spot’ any sign of blaze in the bathroom.

The city fire and emergency services received a call around 2.20 pm about a blaze on the 8th floor of the building. On arriving at the spot, fire officials discovered Trivedi’s body in the bathroom, even as rumours of a geyser explosion, leading to a fire, went around.

Fire officer Jaydev Gadhvi said, “We reached the spot suspecting a geyser blast but found no fault in it. However, the man had already been charred to death by then and the neighbours had sprayed him with the fire extinguisher, causing a white sheen on his body that prevented us from making any prima facie examination…”

“The case has been forwarded for criminal investigation, as forensic experts will now ascertain if the man was electrocuted in the water… There were no visible signs of fire in the bathroom. We opened the false ceiling to check the geyser and it was intact,” he added.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (D Division) A V Katkad said, “We have called in forensic science laboratory for further probe … The body has been sent to SSG hospital for postmortem examination.”
