Vadodara: Eight booked for ‘theft’ of 5 trucks from police custody

The trucks were stolen from the Naswadi Bajar Samiti compound Wednesday night where they were parked after being confiscated.

The Naswadi Police in Chhota Udepur have launched a manhunt for eight persons booked for alleged theft of five trucks seized by the Mining Department earlier this month in cases of illegal sand mining. The trucks were stolen from the Naswadi Bajar Samiti compound Wednesday night where they were parked after being confiscated.

The accused have been identified as Haji Mulla Iqbal, Moin Saiyed, Javed Imam, Iqbal Shaikh, Henil Gandhi and Sajid Pathan, all residents of Chikhli in Valsad. Two more accused are from Mangrolia in Surat.

The five tracks are estimated to be worth Rs 1 crore, police said. Police sub-inspector M H Zhala said, “The investigation is under way and we will soon arrest the accused.”
