Two days after a clash between members of two communities over personal enmity in Vadodara’s old city area, the residents of Fatehpura Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of Police, citing concern that the police are being “unfair” in their investigation.
The memorandum, submitted by members of the majority community in the area, states, “On November 3, we witnessed an incident in our area, in which members of a certain community assaulted two brothers residing in our area, Kunal Rajesh Joshi and Sunil Joshi alias Munna. They were assaulted so grievously that they were admitted to a hospital. This incident was the handiwork of a member of a certain community, a man named Liaqat and his accomplices. It was a premeditated attack…”

The memorandum states that the attack occurred in an area that has two SRP jawans posted. The policemen, however, watched “helplessly” as the assault took place, says the memorandum. It states, “The police have not been trained to tackle such situations. Police officers forget their duty and round up innocent citizens like us.”

Commissioner of Police Manoj Sashidhar said, “The police have investigated all incidents of clashes very promptly and efficiently. Every time a suspect is picked up, somebody says that he is innocent. But we’ re doing our duty and trying to ensure communal harmony and peace in the area.
