The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has launched an e-waste collection drive in the city. This follows the signing of an MoU between VMC and ECS Environment Pvt Ltd, an Ahmedabad-based firm, under which the company will collect e-waste from the people, VMC’s standing committee chairman Hitendra Prabhudas Patel said on Thursday. The vendor will reward people with cash for trading their old electronic gadgets, including televisions, washing machines, mobile phones, computer monitors, gaming consoles and other e-wastes, for recycling. The vendor will also give 12 per cent of the total collection to the civic body, he said. The disposal of this waste will be certified by Gujarat Pollution Control Board and the quantum of waste disposed will be monitored through audits, its IT director Manish Kumar Bhatt said.
