Two separate police complaints have been lodged in connection with an alleged attack on undertrials in the high-security Sabarmati Central Jail.
While one complaint has been filed by the jail authorities against five POTA accused lodged in the jail,the other has been lodged against the jail authorities before POTA judge Jyotsana Yagnik through e-court.
The Sabarmati police have registered an FIR under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code against five POTA accused,including Mohammad Yunus Sareswala,Azar Pervez,Iftekar Rafiq-ul-Hasan,Munawar Beg and Mohammad Haneef.
The jailor of the Sabarmati Central Jail,A I Sheikh,has in his complaint said that he was abused and attacked by five undertrials for not allowing Sareswala to meet his relatives.
He has said that he acted as per the orders of the superintendent and that the accused had beaten him up and threatened to kill him.
On the other hand,after the inmates filed the complaint,the POTA court ordered a team of two advocates and three doctors to visit the jail premises and do proper panchnama of the alleged incident and submit a report.
Whereas,in the complaint lodged before POTA judge,two undertrials have alleged that jail superintendent V Chandrashekhar,jailor Sheikh,and other 15-20 jail policemen had attacked them when they expressed their desire to meet their relatives.
The e-court said the under-trials even showed bruises to the court. Following which,advocate Javed Khan Pathan demanded that proper panchnama should be done inside the jail premises in connection with the incident.
The judge ordered that advocate Pathan,public prosecutor V P Atre and three doctors visit the jail and file a report by Thursday 2.45 pm before the court.
