Two held in Surat for house break-ins

Surat crime branch sleuths arrested two youths,including a law graduate,for their involvement in house break-ins,on Thursday night.

Surat crime branch sleuths arrested two youths,including a law graduate,for their involvement in house break-ins,on Thursday night. They also recovered stolen ornaments and cameras worth Rs 2 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off,crime branch sleuths intercepted 18-year-old Gautam Vaghani in Varachha area. The cops recovered two gold chains from his possession. After he was interrogated,he confessed to have committed six thefts in the city in different areas. The accused is a resident of Kapodara in Surat.

Gautam disclosed that he had given the stolen ornaments to his friend Ravi Patel. Acting on the information,the crime branch sleuths raided a flat in Varachha and recovered the stolen ornaments from Ravi’s possession. Ravi is a second-year student of law at a college at Athwalines. Ravi’s father,Himmat Patel,is a diamond polisher by profession. Crime branch police sub-inspector C M Kumbhani said,“We were shocked when Ravi told us he is a law graduate student. Despite knowing that Gautam was into house break-ins,he kept the stolen ornaments at his house.”
