The two youths arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Surat-based moneylender were sent to three-day police custody on Thursday. According to the police, one of the accused, Mukesh Sahu, with the help of his friend Ravi Behra killed 52-year-old Jagdish Patel as they had frequent altercations over money. Sahu, who had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Patel a year ago, had paid Rs 30,000 to him, said police sources, adding that Patel had been demanding Sahu to pay the remaining Rs 70,000.
“The motive for murder was that Mukesh Sahu was fed up with Jagdish Patel as the latter had been demanding his dues. We are carrying out further investigation,” said Inspector K I Modi. Both Sahu and Behra hail from Odisha, said police. Meanwhile, Surat City police have been handed the probe.
