Truck carrying liquor worth over Rs 14 lakh seized,1 arrested

The local Crime Branch (LCB) officials of Vadodara rural police on Friday seized a truck carrying Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 14.95 lakh and arrested the driver.

The local Crime Branch (LCB) officials of Vadodara rural police on Friday seized a truck carrying Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 14.95 lakh and arrested the driver.

Acting on a tip-off that the truck carrying the IMFL consignment was on its way towards Godhra from Daman,a police team led by inspector Viral Patel stopped the vehicle near Referral Crossroads on Vadodara-Halol road.

“When the truck reached the crossroads,we signalled the driver to stop. However,instead of stopping,the driver tried to speed away. We gave him a chase and managed to stop the truck a few kilometres away near Hotel Supreme,” Patel said. On checking,police found 1,245 crates (14,940 bottles) of liquor loaded in the truck.

“The driver,who hails from Panjub,did not have proper documents for the liquor consignment and he was booked under Prohibition Act,” police said.

“The driver has confessed that he the consignment was sent from Nasik,Maharashtra by one Ravi and he was to deliver it to an unidentified man at Hotel Annpurna on Godhra-Dahod road,” Patel added.

Police have seized the IMFL haul,mobile phone and collectively valued at Rs 24.99 lakh.
