(Express File Photo) A tragedy was averted after a first class coach of a Dahod-Anand memu train caught fire at Jekot railway station in Dahod Saturday afternoon. The passengers, who spotted the smoke, miraculously escaped minutes before the coach was consumed in flames and charred.
According to officials, the 09350 Anand-Dahod memu train was stationary at the Jekot railway station when the engine caught fire and the smoke spread to the first class coach attached to it. Passengers, who spotted the smoke, immediately evacuated from the compartment, thereby preventing a tragedy even as the coach was engulfed by fire.
The officials also evacuated other passengers from the train as the fire department arrived at the spot to douse the flame.
While the railway has ordered a probe into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire, the primary cause is said to have been a short-circuit. No casualty or injuries were reported from the accident. ENS
