Three including mother and son run over by speeding train

All the three people came under the goods train and died on the spot.

A mentally unstable youth along with his mother and his maternal uncle were killed on the spot after they were hit by a speeding train on platform number 1 at Vapi on Thursday morning.

Jatin Halpati (25), a resident of Vapi town near post office, in Valsad district was on his way to a Psychiatrist in Navsari town on Thursday.

Jatin was accompanied with his mother Manju Halpati (50) and her brother Natu Halpati (45). While waiting for the train at the Vapi railway station on platform number 1, Jatin, suddenly jumped on the railway tracks.

Manju and her brother also jumped on the railway tracks and tried to push him on to the platform. In the process, a speeding goods train was coming from Mumbai direction which hit them.

All the three people came under the goods train and died on the spot. The Railway authorities immediately rushed to the platform. The goods train stopped after half a kilometer.

The Railway GRP of Vapi also reached to the spot and removed the bodies of the deceased and informed their relatives. The dead bodies were later sent to a government hospital for postmortem.

Vapi GRP police sub inspector Manu Rathwa said, “Jatin was been taken to hospital at Navsari. Trio were run over by speeding goods train. Jatin was only son of Manju. Since last three years Jatin was undergoing treatment from a psychiatric doctor in Navsari.”
