A bootlegger and his two accomplices involved in kidnapping a person from the Madhavpura locality were nabbed by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch,the police said Friday.
Pravin alias Pintu Chauhan,a police informer from Madhavpura area,was kidnapped by the bootlegger from his residence on March 9. He was taken to Nasik where he was held captive for two days before the Crime Branch team rescued him after paying Rs 2 lakh of ransom.
The main accused in the case were identified as Shankar Marwadi,the kingpin and bootlegger,Bharatkumar Gurjar and Himatlala Gurjar,all natives of Rajsamad district of Rajasthan. The other five accused who were a part of the abduction are still on the run.
Jt Commissioner of Police Arun Sharma said,Pravin had tipped off police about a huge consignment of liquor that was coming from Daman to Ahmedabad.
The local police had busted the racket and arrested bootleggers working under Marwadi. Shankar wanted to take revenge and plotted the of Pravin. After abducting Pravin,they took him to Daman and when they learnt that local police had got alert,they took the victim to Nasik.
The Crime Branch official added that after the ransom was sent to the kidnappers,they freed Pravin and sent him to Vapi in Gujarat from where he returned to Ahmedabad.
The kidnappers had contacted Pravins friend Shravan to seek ransom.
JCP Sharma added,Marwadi wanted to expand his base in Ahmedabad,but Shravan,who was a common link between victim and him,couldnt be of much help. He got in touch with Pravin to supply bootlegged liquor in Ahmedabad to bigger buyers. However,Pravin exposed his network.
According to Crime Branch,Marwadi had got into bootlegging 10 years ago in Valsad district. After living in Vapi for a short period,he moved to Umargaon where he ran a small scrap shop. He has been the biggest supplier of liquor in Surat and Valsad,as per police records.
The Crime Branch has begun a hunt for the absconding accused.
