Three days on,woman succumbs to burns

A Quarrel over a trivial issue of fetching water turned fatal as a woman succumbed to burns at Bhavnagar Civil Hospital on Sunday. The victim,Sangita Koli,28,was allegedly set on fire by another woman at Palitana town in Rajkot district on February 23,police said.

She was brought to the hospital on the same day with over 70 per cent burns,police said.

Sangita,a daily wager,left behind her husband and a two-and-a-half-year-old son. The family had shifted to the town three months ago to earn their livelihood. They hail from Hathsani village,police said.

“Sangita had a quarrel with Kanchan Koli,a neighbour,over fetching water from a hand pump. Both women were at loggers head over who gets how many buckets of water for quite some time,” said a Bhavnagar police official.

On Thursday,when the victim was alone at home,Kanchan allegedly poured kerosene on her and torched her.

Neighbours rushed her to the hospital and informed police about the incident,sources said.

“Kanchan will be arrested soon,” police said,adding,“A case of murder has been registered against the accused. Earlier,she was also booked for an attempt to murder.’’
