Tailor shot dead in Vadodara,‘bootlegger’ under lens

A 43-year-old tailor was shot dead reportedly by an alleged bootlegger in the Vadi area of the city on Sunday morning.

A 43-year-old tailor was shot dead reportedly by an alleged bootlegger in the Vadi area of the city on Sunday morning. The deceased’s family alleged he was killed because he used to pass information to police about bootlegging activities.

According to the police,Dinesh Jinger was shot at thrice allegedly by one Jayanti Patel when the tailor was busy working at his shop at Chhelli Pol. The incident took place at 11 am.

Eyewitnesses said Patel,also a resident of Chhelli Pol,and two others came in an autorickshaw,fired at Jinger and sped away. Jinger received bullet injuries on the chest,head and hand. He was rushed to SSG Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

In her complaint filed with the Vadi police,Jinger’s wife Gayatri alleged that Patel was a bootlegger and Jinger used to pass information to police about his activities. She further claimed that Jinger and Patel were having a dispute of driving a vehicle which both of them had bought in partnership.

She stated Patel had been issuing life threats to Jinger for some time over the same issue.

While police confirmed that cases under Prohibition Act had been registered against Patel,they said they had “no information if the victim was a police informer”. “However,investigation is on,” said inspector P A Arya.

On the basis of Gayatri’s complaint,police registered a case of murder against Patel and other unidentified men and started investigation. No arrest or detention was made till the evening.
