Surat factory uses telephone for water theft,fined Rs 4 lakh

Officials said the hydraulic department of SMC had found some problems in the meter reading of Samruddhi Processors. Subsequently,a team of department officials examined the meter and found it was running properly.

Suspecting some tampering with the meter wire,they started digging up the cable path. They soon found a separate wire in the ground,which was connected to the meter cable and a telephone instrument.

Officials said when the receiver is lifted,the circuit stops working,and when it is put down,the meter restarts. This was done with the help of some technical experts,they added.

Executive engineer (Hydraulic department ) J K Shah said,“On the basis of our records,we found contradictions in the meter reading of Samruddhi Processors,following which we checked and found this water theft… As per rules,we have slapped a fine of Rs 4 lakh on the owner.”
