A Special CBI court on Monday convicted a sub-postmaster of India Post in Ahmedabad for two years imprisonment in a corruption case lodged in 2003. Special judge Gita Gopi convicted Shivabhai Patel and sentenced him two years of imprisonment along with Rs 4,000 fine. CBI’s senior counsel L D Tiwari said Patel had been trapped by CBI in 2003 while accepting taking Rs 1,000 as bribe. According to the case details,Patel had demanded Rs 1,000 per month from the complainant Prahlad I Nai,who along with his wife used to work at the post office as agents. Nai had lodged a complaint with CBI stating that Patel was asking for Rs 1,000 per month for clearing payments due to Nai and his customers.

Lioness found dead in Junagadh

A two-year-old lioness was found dead outside the Girnar sanctuary in Junagadh district,said forest officials on Monday. A post-mortem at Sakkarbaug Zoo later in the day showed the death was caused by “a respiratory tract infection brought on by the lioness and weakened immunity due to tape and round worms that had infected its intestines,” said Aragana Sahoo,Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF),Junagadh. The lioness had been located as late as 9 pm Sunday by forest staff.

Around 11 am Monday,a forest beat-guard was alerted that a dead lioness was found at Puneet Sai Ashram,Madhavna taleti,which is adjacent to the sanctuary area. Sahoo said such illnesses were more common in young,adolescent carnivores.
