The MS University authorities on Tuesday asked the head of Sculpture Department under Fine Arts Faculty,Aqueel Ahmad,to quit following a protest by the students outside its office demanding his resignation.

According to protesting students,he misbehaved with several students and also allegedly discriminated against them. The university authorities gave the department’s charge to the dean of the Fine Arts Faculty,S K Kushwaha.

MSU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh met the protesting students, following which he decided to terminate Ahmad from the post.

“His behaviour with the students was not good. He discriminated against us,” said a student.

Ahmad, when contacted, was said to be hospitalised after complaining of chest pain.

Kushawaha said that the main problem with the department was not the behaviour of the head of the department but a severe lack of permanent faculty which puts strain on the existing faculty and hence the trouble. “As many as six posts at the sculpture department are vacant, which is being run by visiting faculty members who are not always regular. This affects studies,” he said.
