An engineering student,who made threat calls to the BJP MLA in Ahmedabads Bapunagar and several other party MLAs in Gujarat and other states,was arrested from Gurgaon in Haryana on Sunday by Karnataka and Gujarat Police. The BJP MLA in Bapunagar,Jagroopsingh Rajput,registered a complaint with the city police on Sunday that he had been receiving threat calls for the last 15 days.
The accused has been identified as Mahesh Ambale,a native of Gurgaon. Ambale had allegedly been threatening to kill Rajput. According to the complaint Rajput filed with the Vatva police,the caller had asked him to pay Rs 10 lakh and threatened with dire consequences if he failed to do so.
The police said Rajput initially used to receive only one call in a day. However,in the last few days,the caller made five calls every day,pressing for money. After Rajputs complaint,the Gujarat police learnt that the Karnataka Police was also on a hunt for Ambale.
The Vatva police said Ambale was not mentally fit and was reported to have called several other BJP MLAs. Ambale made threat calls in Gujarat,Maharashtra,Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh,police said.
Siddharth Khatri,DCP Zone V,said,Ambale has been collecting phone numbers of the BJP MLAs through his sources. He used to buy different SIM cards and make threat calls. He threatened two other MLAs in Gujarat. We are probing further about their cases too.
An FIR was lodged against Ambale on May 17 in Karnataka,after which the Gujarat and Karnataka police carried out a joint operation and traced him. Ambale would be brought to Gujarat and produced before the designated court where the city police would seek his remand for custodial interrogation.
