State govt shifts 43 IPS officers in major reshuffle

In a major reshuffle,the state government on Monday transferred 43 IPS officers,promoting seven superintendents of police,all 1999-batch IPS officers,as deputy inspector generals (DIGs) of police.

In a major reshuffle,the state government on Monday transferred 43 IPS officers,promoting seven superintendents of police,all 1999-batch IPS officers,as deputy inspector generals (DIGs) of police.

J K Bhatt,posted as DIG (intelligence) in Gandhinagar,has now been made a joint commissioner of police in Ahmedabad (Sector-I). The 1993-batch IPS officer will also hold the additional charge of IG in anti-terrorism squad (ATS).

Bhatt was among the 11 officers nominated to be members of the Special Investigation Team formed to probe the Ishrat Jahan encounter case. He was also named among the top crorepati police officers in Gujarat in 2012 after he disclosed his net worth as Rs 5.56 crore.

As JCP (Sector I),Bhatt replaces Ajay Tomar,who has moved to Border Security Force on deputation.

DIG Manoj Shashidhar,who was holding charge of ATS,will take over as JCP (Sector II) in Ahmedabad.

Amit Vishwakarma,DIG (jails),has been shifted as chief of State Crime Records Bureau,a post that has been downgraded. It was Vishwakarma who had prepared a report in the Sabarmati tunnel case indicting superintendent of jails R J Pargi and other jail officials for negligence.

Vishwakarma has been replaced with DIG I M Desai,who probed the Tulsiram encounter case as DIG CID in 2010.

Vadodara DIG S S will replace DIG Khurshid Ahmed in CID (IV),while the latter moves to Police Training College in Vadodara. DIG Anupam Singh Gehlot CID (Intelligence) will take over Trivedi’s place. Gehlot recently recorded his statements with the CBI in the Sadiq Jamal encounter case.

IGP Shamsher Singh has been appointed as additional director of the Anti Corruption Bureau. He will also hold the additional charge of JCP (special branch) as IGP Vikas Sahay moves to Raksha Shakti University as its deputy Director General. DIG (Modernization) Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat will take over as Gandhinagar Range DIG in place of Singh.

The newly promoted DIG,Brajesh Jha,who was SP (CM’s security),will take over as DIG (modernisation) in place of Bhagat.

Ajay Kumar Chaudhari,also promoted,will take over as DIG (Intelligence- II) and P N Patel will take over as DIG (Intelligence-I) in Gandhinagar.
