Security has been stepped up across the state as a series of programmes are lined up at various places on Monday on the 10th anniversary of the Sabarmati Express carnage at Godhra.

Special security arrangements have been made in Godhra where VHP International General Secretary Praveen Togadia will lead a rally to the burnt S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express, which is now kept at the railway yard.

“Around 200 policemen from the Panchmahals district and one company of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed in the town. The security has been stepped up at the Godhra railway station with the help of railway police,” said Panchmahals in-charge Superintendent of Police B S Ninama.

Police said all the 30 companies of the SRPF have been deployed in all the major cities and districts.

Special Branch and Special Operations Group officials have been asked to keep a watch on migrants and tourists who are moving to and fro from the state in the next two days. The crime branches in cities have been asked to remain vigilant around government and other important buildings. Some city and district police have made a few preventive detentions.

The security arrangements are likely to be elaborated on February 28 to avoid any untoward incident during various programmes being organised on the anniversary of the post-Godhra riots.
