SMC officials attend funeral of two students, civic body to bear treatment cost of injured

The bodies of three students of Surat Municipal Corporation-run schools, who died in a bus mishap at Keshod in Junagadh on Thursday, were brought here Friday and handed over to their parents by the civic authorities. While the funeral procession of two students were held in Surat Friday afternoon, the third students body was handed over to her parents. The SMC will bear the treatment cost of all those injured in the mishap, said a top official.

The bodies of all the three minor students – Divya Bharti (13), Nisha Rabari (11) and Bhavna Bambhva (11) – were brought to Surat in an ambulance, Friday morning. The bodies were handed over to their parents by SMC commissioner Milind Torwane, Mayor Ashmitya Shiroya and Standing Committee chairman Rajesh Desai, and Municipal education officer Hitesh Makhecha. The body of Nisha Rabari was taken to her native place at Patan by her parents in the afternoon.

A luxury bus carrying upper primary students of SMC-run school were on their education tour to Junagadh, two days ago. While returning to Surat, the bus in which they were travelling in, overturned resulting in the death of three students and two cooks. Eighteen were injured.
