Jailed Patidar reservation stir leader Hardik Patel on Friday moved fresh bail applications before courts in Ahmedabad and Surat where chargesheets in two sedition cases have been filed against him.
In Ahmedabad, Hardik filed the application through his lawyer Rafik Lokhandwala before a sessions court in connection with sedition case lodged by Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB). The move comes days after the DCB filed a 2,700 page chargesheet against Hardik.
Hardik’s lawyer claimed that the FIR against him is false and fabricated. He has said that the case against him is politically motivated and has been lodged “with a view to suppress the voice of dissent of Patidar community.” Brushing aside the charges against him, the bail application states that “Agitation for reservation can’t be said unlawful in any manner as the aim and object of the applicant were reservation and not to strike the sovereign authorities of the state of Gujarat. It is the fundamental right of the citizen to question the legitimacy of the state with regard to development and uplift of his caste.”
Hardik has contended against the chargesheet against him saying that “The theoretical views of the applicant may or may not be possible but the applicant can’t be termed as the enemy of the state for raising the voice for his caste.” The matter is likely to be heard next week.
Meanwhile, in Surat advocate Yashvantsinh Vala filed bail application on Hardik’s behalf in the court of principal sessions judge Gita Gopi regarding the other sedition case.
