The state government-appointed SIT,probing the encounters of Shial brothers,reconstructed the encounter scene at Kirti Mandir area of Porbandar on Tuesday. The team was accompanied by Gujarat forensic science officers. IPS officer Satish Verma,alleged to have ordered the encounter in 1996,was absent during the reconstruction.
The SIT team was led by IPS officer Himanshu Shukla.
The sources said that the reconstruction began at around 11 am and got over by 1 pm with the policemen who were then posted in Kutiyana police station of Porbandar city narrating the series of incidents that took place in 1996. Inspector Manoj Sharma was present during the reconstruction. Now posted with the Anti-Corruption Bureau at Ahmedabad,in 1996,he was a Sub-Inspector with Porbandar police and a part of the encounter team.
Verma,the then SP of Porbandar,had allegedly ordered the encounter of the victims who were arrested under the Arms Act. Verma,who was asked to be present during the reconstruction,did not turn up. The SIT had also asked the then DSP of Porbandar,Sukhdevsinh Zala,to be present during the reconstruction. He,too,was absent.
As per the case,Jasu was shot by the police,allegedly in self-defence. Ranmal Ram Aher was allegedly shot by the police after he fired from a revolver. Naran Bandhiya Aher,who was arrested from Porbandar,was found hanging from a tree the next day.
